Does my dog need a raincoat?

It depends on the dog. Small dogs, short-coated breeds, puppies and older dogs often feel the cold and wet more. Some thick-coated breeds are perfectly happy without one. A raincoat can also mean less wet fur to deal with when you get home.

Raincoat or drying coat?

They do different jobs. A raincoat goes on for the walk. A drying coat goes on afterwards, to soak up the wet while your dog dries off. If your walks are wet more often than not, you might want both.

How should a dog coat fit?

Snug but not tight. It should cover the back from the base of the neck towards the base of the tail, fasten comfortably round the chest, and let your dog walk, sit and lie down without pulling. Measure back length, chest and neck, then check the chart on the product page. Our size guide explains how, including what to do with deep-chested breeds.

My dog isn't keen on coats. Any tips?

Start indoors. Let them sniff it, then pop it on for a few seconds with plenty of treats, and build up slowly. Keep the first walk in it short and fun. Doing the first fittings indoors also means the coat can still come back if it doesn't fit.
